Some children need extra help learning to drive!
Because The Family Place hosts so many different programs, it can be hard to answer the question: “So, what do you do?” This post is the first of a multi-part attempt to describe our services.
Children’s Integrated Services – Early Intervention
CIS – EI serves children who are developmentally delayed. This means they are unable to perform certain skills that other children in their age group can do, like speaking, or walking. There are many different reasons for developmental delays: illness, premature birth, chronic medical conditions. For some children, no discernable reason is evident for their delay; they’re simply on a different schedule.
Why might children benefit from Early Intervention? The first three years of life are critical in terms of learning and development. A child’s earliest experiences provide the foundation for how he or she learns and relates to the world in the future. If a child needs help, this is the the best time to provide it.
Developmental therapists, educators and a medical social worker provide service coordination, evaluations and ongoing support. And when the child turns three, the team works with local school systems to ensure a smooth transition for the child and family.
