Week 1: Kickoff (May 1-3)
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. As we begin this month devoted to mental health issues and resources, The Family Place is excited to welcome three new therapists to our Clinical Services Program. We’ll be highlighting issues related to mental health on our social media this month and will host a Clinical Services Open House to spotlight our resources.

Week 2: Perinatal Mental Health (May 6-10)
Between 15% and 20% of birthing parents and between 8 and 10 percent of nonbirthing partners experience some type of mood or anxiety disorder during pregnancy and the first year postpartum. The Family Place offers many supports for new parents, including welcome baby bags, home visiting services, counseling, financial assistance for childcare, and resource and referral information for other area agencies.

Week 3: Children and Teens (May 13-17)
It can be tough to tell if behavioral or emotional difficulties in a child or teen are just part of growing up or a problem that needs to be addressed with a therapist or health care provider. Consider seeking help when the problem lasts more than a few weeks, is distressing for your child or family or gets in the way of your child’s learning or relationships.

Week 4: Parents Mental Health (May 20-24)
When a parent struggles with mental health problems or has difficulty managing life stressors, it impacts their ability to be the parent they want to be. That’s why our Clinical Services team believes that providing individual and couples counseling for parents and caregivers is just as important as providing therapy for children.

Week 5: Taking Care of Your Mental Health (May 27-31)
Little steps can make a big difference in your mental health. Remember to take some time each day to focus on self care. And if you’re struggling reach out for help by contacting a supportive friend or family member or calling or texting the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
