All over the country this month, teenagers are returning to school, and here at The Family Place it’s no different. Families Learning Together participants are arriving in our classrooms and work stations to gain the tutoring and life skills they need to reach their academic and employment goals.

FLT operates on the premise that practical help works best if applied in a sustainable manner. To that end, we don’t simply serve participants free meals; we teach them how to shop for nutritious food using a budget and how to cook that nutritious food for themselves and their families. We don’t simply find them a job; we teach them how to prepare themselves mentally and logistically for the challenges of employment.

It’s a joy to welcome these ten young parents to our program. We look forward to watching them develop the skills they’ll need to create an independent life for themselves. Here at The Family Place we offer therapy, social support, case management, academic tutoring and parenting, wellness, and life skills classes. We offer these parents the opportunity to create the life they choose rather than the life they are given.
