Congratulations to all our Families Learning Together participants who’ve earned their driver’s licenses!

Independent transportation is crucial to an independent life. Especially when you live in the rural Upper Valley. How else does an expecting mother get to her doctors’ appointments? How does a parent get their child to child care and themselves to work? How do they visit playgrounds, museums, friends’ houses? All of the activities an independent family may take for granted become blocked by logistic obstacles when you can’t drive.

The Family Place supports transportation in three different ways. First, we transport participants who have no license or car to and from our Families Learning Together program. Second, we offer on-site Driver’s Education during program hours. Third, we partner with the Good News Garage, a local nonprofit that makes safe, refurbished cars affordable for the people who need them. By making it possible for participants to reach their transportation goals, we boost both their independence and their chances at success in other areas of their lives, like education and employment.

We are very proud of the participants who are working extremely hard to improve their lives and their children’s lives!
