The Family Place delivers comprehensive programs designed to strengthen positive relationships, teach essential skills and promote enduring healthy growth for families with young children in the Upper Valley and surrounding communities.

Most people don’t think much about the philosophical implications of their career paths when they are actually performing their jobs. The staff here at The Family Place is no different.
Instead, we visit families in their homes to provide therapy and reassurance. We find ways to help young moms finish their education, gain employment, and improve their lives and those of their children. We help families afford child care. The list of what we do on a daily basis is a long and varied one, and usually no one has the time to ponder – am I an activist?
But according to the Dartmouth students in Professor Helen Damon-Moore’s class, titled “Gender, Activism, and the Common Good,” we are all activists:
“Activism is goal-oriented activity or advocacy on behalf of social change or social transformation that can take many forms and is accomplished by ordinary people; it changes over time and over the lifespan of an individual.”
These Dartmouth students conducted a series of interviews of our staff members to discover how we got into this business of social change and betterment. Look for their discoveries on this website soon. In the meantime: are you an activist?
