Today marks the first day of the 2013 – 2014 Families Learning Together program!
Families Learning Together is a research-based parenting and life skills program designed to help young parents address barriers to self-sufficiency so they are better able to care for themselves and their children. Here at The Family Place, participants can attend classes, learn money management, participate in work sites such as our commercial kitchen and JewelryOs® studio, access individual and group counseling and use our Child Care Center. We are a one-stop resource for moms and dads looking to improve their lives and the lives of their children.
This year is especially exciting because it’s our second as a Teen Parent Alternative Education site, approved by the Vermont Board of Education. This means participants can earn credit towards their high school diplomas – issued by partnering local high schools – through the classes they take here at The Family Place. Often young parents have difficulties trying to juggle the demands of a young family with the culture of high school; at The Family Place their needs are met in a way that promotes success and independence.
