The Family Place Internship Program
With both home-based and on-site services reaching over 1000 families a year, The Family Place offers a unique variety of internship opportunities for graduate level and undergraduate students to enhance their academic learning with real world experience. Internships at The Family Place provide a rich substantive learning experience.

Purpose of the Internship Program
The primary purpose of the internship program at The Family Place is to train future practitioners in areas that are aligned with the needs of the families we serve. Interns may also want to gain course credit, practical experience, connect theory to practice, and form professional contacts and networks. All of these goals may be attainable through our internship program.
Types of Internships Available
We offer a variety of internships for students at different stages in their training. We also offer year-long or multiple semester-long internships for students at the master’s level who are seeking to gain practical experience and to accrue hours for credentialing and licensure. Internships for undergraduate students are typically one quarter or a semester in length and centered on a project or class. (See link below for descriptions of internships currently available.)
Applying to the Internship Program
The deadline for year-long internships that begin in the fall semester is May 1st. However, for semester-long or project-based internships, we will accept applications at other times of the year. Each applicant must submit the following, either by mail, email, or fax: a cover letter, a résumé, and references. The cover letter should address why you want to intern at TFP, prior skills, knowledge, including course work, and work experience, and what you hope to gain from the internship experience. The application process includes a screening of the application materials, interview, and reference checks. A second interview with the assigned team is also possible. All interns applying to work directly with families and children are also subject to a background check.
